DD(Dad’s Diary)43

Duty  in San Diego  Was rather warm , but in the winter it got a tad cold for me , The Helicopter exhaust from the turbo jet engines was a treat for sure , but short lived as they were gone to fly quickly , just long enough for the pilots and aircrew to do all of their pre-flight checks , running a test of all the flight controls , and system checks. But 1 of the tests they did was a hover check , which blew the warm air on us . As they taxied toward the runway to take off ,   we retreated to the warmth of the line-shack , which was nice and toasty! Of course , maintenance technicians used our shop as a refuge of sorts , only going outside just when they were really needed! My first 4 years at HSL-31. Was lesson for me , I would learn later that winter was quite different at sea..San Diego /NAS Northisland was just a taste of what was in store for me!

HSL continued…
