DD(Dad’s Diary)37

My first few years at HC-2 in Virginia , I went on several deployments close to home , as my future deployments were far away , I went to Cape Cod and Longisland  , and this was pre-9-11 so we were given a low helicopter sightseeing flight of the statue of liberty and the Hudson-River in Ny. The H-3 helicopters were retired from Submarine Hunting , and the cabins were stripped of all the gear that they used in the past , so there was enough room for several of the maintenance troops and our toolboxes. And the Helicopters were designed for lifting heavy loads , so the cabin could transport us and all of our tools and test equipment. When we deployed to Cape-Cod we had 4 H-3’s , that were kept at a small airport , and we stayed at a small motel nearby. The Airport had a small breakfast diner are many of the locals ate , so we were quite the novelty! The Helicopters were used to practice Search and Rescue , and many other Missions  , and we were there to maintain and repair the Aircraft.

More to come…
