DD(Dad’s Diary)13

On The Subject Of F.O.D.(Foreign Object Damage) , I Learned Early On As An E-1 , Just How Important The Prevention Of Are Such A Big Deal! Not Only Can The F.O.D. Damage Jet Engines , But The Rotor-Blades Stirred Up The Junk , And Would Send Them Flying , And Anything In Your Face Can Be Rather Dangerous! So When I Went To Sea With H-2’s , The Tiny Flight Deck On The Back Of The Ship Was Not Only A Helo-Pad , But When We Got Stores Delivered , Our Helicopter Was Not Part Of The Operation (Since It Only Had Enough Room In The Cabin For The 2 Pilots And 1 Crewman) , We Stored It In The Hangar.  All Of The Cargo Was Hoisted Onto The Flight-Deck By Helicopters. The Pallets Were Loaded With The Cargo, And Secured With Shrink Wrap , And Nylon Tape. After The Deliveries , We Spent A Few Hours , Cleaning Up The Flight-Deck  , As Most Of The Ship’s Crew Had No Knowledge Of F.O.D.

More To Come…
