DD(Dad’s Diary) 42

My first “Real” assignment was at HSL(Helicopter-Antisubmarine-Light)-31in San Diego . We (me and my family)  Lived in base-housing in Imperial-Beach nearby. The rent was taken out of my pay , The allowance payed for the apartment and utilities. The Base I was assigned to was NAS(Naval-Air-Station)-North Island. Near the ship’s pier , where all the local USS’s where kept. The squadron I was assigned to  had several H-2 Helicopters. Just large enough cockpit for the 2 pilots and 1 aircrewman and the anti-submarine gear , As an electrical-systems-technician , I got a taste of the “real navy” , working on and maintaining and moving around on the flight-line and runway and hangar was quite the lesson’s for me. The large Hangars were built many years ago for blimps and sea-planes.  The hangar-doors were rather large and opened and closed by hand. My off-duty times were an adventure too! Being in the military is 1 thing , but having 2 babies at home make the experience even better for me. I have so much more to add , so San Diego part 2 will be next…
