DD(Dad’s Diary) 20

My Job As A Maintenance Technician Required Plenty Of Schools , But Being Around The Naval-Aircraft , Took Even More Training! Each Fastener On The Airframe Or Engine Was Secured With Lock/Safety  Wire. To Keep The Components Secure In-Flight . We Had A Small-Pouch Attached To Our Uniforms , To Use As A Trash Bag , To Keep F.O.D.(Foreign-Object-Damage) Away From The Aircraft. A Small Object/Trash Can Damage The Jet-Engines , And Get Blown Around The Flight Area By Jet- Exhaust, And Helicopters Rotor-Wash Throws Debris Anyway , So Even More Important.   Being On A Land-Runway Was One Thing , But When The Helicopter-Pad Was On A Naval-Ship , It Was An Entirely Different Story , As The Ship’s Crew Had No Such Training . Aircraft Carriers Are Taught About F.O.D. , Just Ask My  Brother! But We Deployed On Smaller-USS’s , So Most Of The Ship’s Crew Had No Interest In That Hazard , So We Were Very Aware When They Had To Work Around The Helicopter!

Plenty More To Come…
