DD(Dad’s Diary) 53

As I posted in the Past , After all my Training and Qualifications for My Rate , My First Duty Station was to  NAS North Island , in San Diego to HSL-(Helicopter Anti-Submarine Light)31 , To learn my Trade on H-2  Helicopters. The Squadron had 20+ and was Shore based , and a FRAMP(Fleet Replacement And Maintenance Program) , teaching sailors  how to maintain the aircraft , And also pilot Training too. I first worked As a  Plane Captain to inspect and maintain the helicopters . Besides my duties , I went to assorted schools for Ground  Support gear to tow the aircraft on the tarmac , and portable power wagons , used to Launch. When I was off duty , We( my Wife and 2 children & me!) were a young military   family ; saw a lot of San Diego , and nearby places. North San Diego got a little snow in the winter ,  and we visited many small wineries and saw real christmas trees in the forest (a big deal for misplaced floridians !). The Hotel Del-Coronado(Had to be the inspiration for Disney Worlds “Grand Floridian” resort hotel?!) Had a very large Christmas Tree In The lobby in the  Winter , with big teddy bears and ornaments for decorations , and very large Nutcrackers and trimmings . So my off duty times were the Real-Adventure! My next Duty was at HSL-35 , so getting out to see the World , was great , and will post more next time
