This is a continuation of “a tale of 2 helicopters” , as they were so much different from one another  ! My first duty as an electrical systems technician was on the H-2 , the engine cowlings opened up , so in order to work on the electrical systems (The engine had several components) we had to balance on the pylons , and keep our tool boxes on the ground , so getting different tools was quite the challenge , and when we were aboard ship , the swaying ocean , made the job even trickier! And the helicopter was lighter , and easier to push by hand. But the rotor blade fold had to be done by hand , so when we moved the helicopter into the hangar aboard ship , we had to do it manually! First we had to align the blades to the proper marking , then fold them by hand. Years later when I worked on H-3s , it was all done automatically by the electrical and hydraulic systems , so it was much easier for us. The H-3’s Were once used on aircraft carriers , so it was all automatic , as they had to be stowed and out of the way on the runway , rather quickly! And the H-3 Engine Cowlings opened down , and could support us and our tools , so that was much better for me! Plenty more next time…

A Tale of the 2 Helicopters! My Time working on the H2 and H3 were quite different for me. The H3 had a separate Accessory Gearbox , powered by the  Turbo-Jet Engines , so when 1 of them was started , Automatic Rotor Blade Fold could spread the blades (They are folded between flights , for easy storage aboard ships , and many other electrical systems ). Some electrical Systems were the same for me to Maintain , but Most were different ! The Electrical    Generators were similar , but the H-2 powered the Generators when the Rotor-Blades were Spinning , But the H-3 powered the generators when the Engines were started , separate from the Rotor Blades. So the  4 VH-3’s  had a different Electrical System , A tiny Generator could be started by 1 Engine , and it could Power Air conditioning  , Blade Fold , and other Electrical Systems , so when they were on the Ground At The Pentagon , they could keep the Cabin cool .

So much more to add , so to be continued…
